2
And
you, O
Bethlehem
of Ephrath,
least among the clans of Judah.
From
you shall come forth to rule Israel for Me - One whose origin is from old,
from ancient times.
2b
Truly, He will
leave them [helpless] until she who is to bear has borne; then the
rest of the countrymen shall return to the children of Israel. 3
He shall stand and shepard by the might of the
LORD, by
the power of the name of the LORD his God and they shall dwell [secure].
For lo, he shall wax great to the ends of the earth; |
2
But you, O
Bethlehem
Ephrathah are only a small village in Judah. Yet
a
ruler of Israel will come from you, ones whose origins are from the distant
past.
3
The
people of Israel will be abandoned to their enemies until the time when the
woman in labor gives birth to her son. Then the last fellow
countrymen will return from exile to their own land.
4 And
he will stand to lead his flock with the Lord's strength, in the majesty of
the name of the Lord his God. Then the people will live there undisturbed,
for he will be highly honored all around the world and
he
will be the source of our peace.

Herod called a meeting of the leading
priest and teachers of religious law.
"Where did the prophets say the
Messiah would be born?" he asked them.
5
"In
Bethlehem," they said, "for this is what
the
prophet wrote:
6
'O Bethlehem of Judah, you are not
just a lowly village in Judah, For a ruler will come from you who will be
the Sheppard for my people Israel'."
|
7 O that
the
deliverance of Israel might come from Zion! |
7
Oh, that salvation would come from Mount Zion
to rescue Israel! |
26 And so
will all Israel be saved. Do you remember what the prophets said about
this? " A deliverer will
come from Jerusalem, and he will turn Israel from all ungodliness
27 and then I will keep my covenant with them and take away their
sins." |
2
The
LORD will stretch forth from
Zion your Mighty scepter; hold sway over your enemies! |
2
The Lord will extend your
powerful dominion from Jerusalem;
you will rule over your enemies |
11
The
Savior - Yes, the Messiah, the Lord--has been born tonight in Bethlehem,
the city of David!
